STUDIES ON THE MIGRATION OF FRAMEWORK Al OF ZSM-5 ZEOLITE I. EFFECT OF HYDROTHERMAL TREATMENT AND SILICA ALUMINA RATIO

The migration of framework Al of ZSM-5 zeolite with different silica alumina ratios and the surface acidity after various hydrothermal treatments were examined by using XRD, 27A1 MASNMR, IR and NH3-TPD techniques. A parallel relationship was observed between the changes in framework Al and total acid sites with steaming temperature. The dealumination of the framework Al of HZSM-5 zeolite treated hydrother-mally at 673K was about 80% of that treated by steaming at 873K. The drastic change of dealumination with steaming temperature below and above 673K might be an indication of the existence of two kinds of framework Al in HZSM-5. The migration of framework Al could be retarded by increasing the silica alumina ratio of HZSM-5 zeolites and by alkaline steaming treatment, but the rate of the framework Al migration was increased under acidic steaming treatment.
