INTERFACIAL PINNING EFFECT OF HOST-GUEST STRUCTURED NANOMETER SEMICONDUCTOR ON PHOTOCATALYSIS

The interfacial pinning effect of host guest structured nanometer ZnS semiconductor on photocatalytic production of hydrogen and ethylene glycol from aqueous methanol solution was studied. It is suggested that with the inclusion of host β cyclodextrin ( β CD) molecules, the interfacial energy level of the guest ZnS should be pinned and therefore, the change in solution pH should affect to a large extent the interfacial charge output from the guest semiconductor indirectly through influencing the redox pairs in aqueous phase. From this point of view and by taking into consideration the previous photoelectric experimental results, it has been explained that why the optimal solution acidity occurs in pH 10~11 for the inclusion compound ZnS/ β CD to photocatalyze the reaction.
