THE EFFECT OF ADSORPTION ABILITY OF TiO 2 THIN FILMS ON THE PHOTODEGRADATIVE PROCESS OF RHODAMINE B

TiO 2 thin films were prepared on glass substrates by dip coating method and confirmed to be anatase crystallites. The photodegradation of rhodamine B was used to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of the films. It is shown that the photoreaction process of rhodamine B is greatly affected by the adsorption ability of the films. The degradation of rhodamine B is accompanied by de ethylation when the adsorption ability is high enough; otherwise, only the degradation occurs. Furthermore, there is no direct relationship between the adsorption ability and photocatalytic activity of the films. De ethylation and photodegradation seem to be relatively independent.
