THE ACTIVITY FOR PHOTOCATALYTIC DEGRADATION OF WATER SOLUBLE DYES OVER LaFe_( 1-x)Cu_xO_3

The LaFeO 3 and a series of Cu doped compounds LaFe 1- x Cu x O 3 were prepared by citrate method. Using a 450 W of luminous high pressure Hg lamp as irradiator, the photodestruction experiments of various water soluble dyes were carried out in the suspension systems of LaFe 1- x Cu x O 3 that act as photocatalysts. The photocatalytic activity of LaFeO 3 and its doped compounds was studied with IR, UV Vis and photoacoustic spectroscopies. The influence of doping on photocatalytic activity was also studied in terms of the positron annihilation spectroscopy. The results reveal that the photocatalytic activity of LaFe 1- x Cu x O 3 is higher than that of LaFeO 3. This basically depends on the d electron structure of atom B.
