Preparation of Ultrafine Cu-ZnO-ZrO_2 Catalysts and CO_2 Hydrogenation Performance

A series of ultrafine particle (UFP) Cu ZnO ZrO 2 catalysts, which were prepared by the sol gel, coprecipitation and azeotropic distillation methods respectively, were investigated by TEM, BET and XRD techniques. The results show that the particles of the catalysts are in the nanometer size range, and have high dispersion and stability. The catalytic performance of these catalysts for CO 2 hydrogenation indicates that the UFP Cu ZnO ZrO 2 catalysts have apparently higher activity than the commercial Cu ZnO Al 2O 3 catalyst. With the decreasing of the particle size, methanol space time yield increases. It has also been found that ZrO 2 plays the role of stabilizing the active centers.
