TPR Study of Ceria Aerogel Supported Copper Catalyst

Ceria aerogel supported copper catalyst CuO/CeO 2 was studied by temperature programmed reduction (TPR). The influences of copper content, calcination temperature of catalyst and calcination temperature of aerogel support on the reduction behavior of CuO/CeO 2 catalyst were investigated. The results showed that two kinds of copper species exist in CuO/CeO 2 catalyst, one is bulk CuO, and the other is well dispersed CuO. The latter may be reduced in two steps, and some of it can be readily oxidized at room temperature. The catalytic activity of the catalyst increases with the increase of copper content which can be readily oxidized at room temperature, hence, it is suggested that, in CO oxidation, the active component should be the readily oxidized copper species.
