Characterization of the Catalyst Prepared by Impregnation for Selective Hydrogenation of Benzene to Cyclohexene

The characterization of supported Ru catalysts prepared by impregnation for selective hydrogenation of benzene to cyclohexene has been carried out by means of XRD and measurement of BET surface area. It was found that the dispersion of Ru and the size of Ru crystallite are responsible for the activity of the supported Ru catalysts. As the size of Ru crystallite is about 5 nm, the catalysts exhibit the best activity. In addition, it is shown that the suitable pore size distribution of the catalysts is between 25 nm and 70 nm. The selectivity toward cyclohexene of the catalysts increases with the rise of the average pore size and the activity of catalysts rises with increasing the BET surface area of the useful pores.
