Study on CuPMo/TiO_2 Catalyst for Direct Synthesis of Methacrylic Acid from Propylene and Carbon Dioxide

The CuPMo/TiO 2 catalyst was prepared by hydrolysis of tetrabutyl titanate with aqueous Cu salt solutions of 12 molybdophosphoric acid via sol gel method. The chemical composition, thermostability, chemisorption character and catalytic performance of the catalyst were studied by using different techniques including ICP, XRD, TG DTA, IR, TPD MS and microreactor respectively. The experimental results showed that the inorganic precursor polyoxomolybdate was introduced on the surface of titania and formed CuPMo/TiO 2 hybrid material. Therefore, a coordination structural model of CuPMo/TiO 2 catalyst was proposed. At 623 K, the catalyst still remained the original Keggin structure of polyoxomolybdate. The experimental results showed also that the CO 2 was chemisorbed at bridging oxygen of Cu O Mo (Lewis base site) and Cu 2+ (Lewis acid site) to form horizontal adsorption state Cu(Ⅱ)←O (CO)←(O - Cu), that the propylene was chemisorbed on the catalyst surface to form molecular adsorption state, and that the main reaction products of propylene and carbon dioxide on the catalyst are methacrylic acid (MAA), with propylene conversion of 4 2% and MAA selectivity of 96% under the reaction conditions of SV= 1?500 h -1 , p =1 MPa and T =563 K.
