Low-Temperature Hydrothermal Synthesis of TiO_2 Photocatalyst with High Activity

Anatase TiO2 nanocrystal photocatalyst with high activity was prepared using T i(SO4)2 and CON2H4 as raw materials by a simple hydrothermal method at l ow temperature. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffract ion (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption. T he photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated using the photocatalytic oxidation of acetone in air at room temperature. It was found that hydrothermal treatment could obviously promote the crystallization of TiO2 at low temperat ure without heat-treatment. TiO2 powders prepared by this method at 160 ℃ fo r 3 h or 180 ℃ for 2 h showed good activity for the photocatalytic oxidation of acetone and the photocatalytic activity of as-prepared TiO2 powders exceede d that of Degussa P25 by a factor of more than 3 times. This might be attributab le to the fact that the as-prepared TiO2 powders had large specific surface a rea and small crystallite size.
