Modification of Cu/Al_2O_3 Catalyst and Its Catalytic Performance for Selective Reduction of NO

Cu/Al_2O_3 as the catalyst for selective reduction of NO with hydrocarbons has received much attention of researchers owing to its advantages of lower reaction temperature and better hydrothermal stability,but the catalytic activity of Cu/Al_2O_3 is still low in the view of practical application.The modified Cu/Al_2O_3 catalyst,Cu/La/SO~(2-)_4/Al_2O_3,was prepared by modifying the(γ-Al_2O_3) support with SO~(2-)_4 followed by addition of La and loading Cu~(2+).The effects of SO~(2-)_4 modification and addition of promoter La on the selective reduction of NO with propylene in excess oxygen were studied.The relationship between the structure and the properties of the Cu/La/SO~(2-)_4/Al_2O_3 catalyst was also explored by means of infrared spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,thermogravimetric analysis,temperature-programmed reduction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.The catalytic activity of Cu/La/SO~(2-)_4/Al_2O_3 is high,and the NO conversion is up to 83.7%.The SO~(2-)_4 modification facilitates the increase of the acidity on the catalyst surface and the formation of Brnsted acid sites.Meanwhile,the addition of the La promoter greatly improves the dispersion of copper on the catalyst surface and increases the thermal stability and reducibility of the catalyst.Consequently,the catalytic activity and hydrothermal stability of the catalyst in the selective reduction of NO with propylene in excess oxygen are improved effectively.
