PHOTOCATALYTIC REMOVAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS IN AIR

Tao Yuewu, Zhao Mengyue, Chen Shifu, Liang Xin (Department of Chemical Engineering, Zhengzhou University of Technology, Zhengzhou 450002)  
Photocatalytic degradation of trace acetone and acetaldehyde in air on TiO 2 was studied. The results show that 390 mg/m 3 of acetone and 413 mg/m 3 of acetaldehyde can be completely degraded into CO 2 and H 2O in a short time under illumination by UV lamp with power of 11 W and in the presence of water vapor and O 2 in air. The effect of calcining temperature and time of TiO 2 on activity was investigated. The effects of amount of photocatalysts, O 2 on the rate of photocatalytic degradation were also studied.
