CATALYTIC BEHAVIOUR OF Pd/C IN THE NITROGEN OXIDEREMOVAL REACTION

Catalytic activity of palladium supported on two kinds of activated carbon, which were made from mountain peach nut(C1) and coal(C2) respectively, in the reaction of NO+CO and NO alone is studied. It is found that the presence of Pd could give catalysts with high activity and stability, the activity increases with Pd content. In the reaction of NO+CO, Pd/C2 gives a higher activity of 100% NO conversion below 550 K, while in the reaction of NO alone, Pd/C1 grants 100% NO conversion below 650 K. The difference in catalytic activity would relate to the surface properties of activated carbons. With the presence of reductant CO in the reaction system, activated carbon acts as support and the dispersion of Pd on it plays the major role; when there isn't any reductant, activated carbon acts as both support and reductant, and its surface properties become very important.
