METHOD FOR COMPUTING DEFLECTIONS OF THEVERTICAL BY MODIFYING VENING-MEINESZ' FUNCTION

: A general formula for computing deflections of the vertical by modifying Vening- Meinesz' function is given in this article. In this formula, numerical integration is car- ried out in a small area around the point under consideration by using terrestrial gravi- metric data, on the whole surface of the earth outside this small area, computation is made by means of the series of gravity anomaly in spherical harmonics. Hence this for- mula leads to a decrease in the volume of laborious integral operation. Moreover, the convergence of the series is improved and the error in computation lessened. Five Yariants for computing deflections of the vertical are proposed. Corresponding formula for each variant is derived from the general one, values of coefficients and error estimations are also given. Finally, a comparison among various variants is made.
