A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR DETERMlNING THESELECTION OF CARTOGRAPHIC OBJECTS INAMAPON THE BASIS OF FUZZY SYNTHETICJUDGEMENT PRINCIPLE

By using a general mathematical method in the research of cartographic generaliza- tion one can only get a quantitative standard for the seIection of cartographic objects. In this paper, on the basis of A.B. Bopo4HH's Geometrical Progression Method. a compar- atively complete mathematical method for the selection of cartographic objects is estab- lishedthrough the qua1itative study of objects by using of the fuzzy synthetic judgement princip1e. In this paper. an example is put forward in detail to illustrate the use of the new model in the selection of rivers in a map. The determination of the subordinate degree of main factors in the factor set is emphasized, and an experimental sample and a basic way for the selection of a1l cartographic features in a map are introduced. The author uses the concept of the fuzzy mathematics and offers a new means in the research of cartographic generalization. Furthermore. it puts forward a new potentiaI approach to cartographic data base creation and computer--assisted map compilation.
