THE SPHERICAL CONVOLUTION FORM OFVENING-MEINESZ FORMULA

:For the computation of the deflections of vertical using fast Fourier transformor fast hartley transform techniques, the earch is assumed to be planar. Basedon this assumption, althongh the derived planar approximation formula of Vening-Meinesz integral can meet the requirement on accuracy within a given accuracy li-mit,but will incur larger approximation error. Howeyer,the Vening-Meinesz integr-al can be likewise developed into 2D spherical convolution integral evaluated byFHT techniqul. Numerical computaton indicates that in an area of △ = 10°, △λ =12° (5'× 5' mean gravity anomaly), the rms differences bet ween the results obtainedfrom Vening-Meinesz spherical convolution formula and those from numerial in-tegration are m =± 0. 03"and mn = ±0. 02", while the rms differences between theresults from planar convolution formula and those from numerical integration arem = ±0. 14", mn =±0. 30", Therefore, the adoption of spherical convolutionformula significantly increases the aecuracy of computed vertical deflections.
