Length-of-day Variation, Atmosphere Angular Momentum and ENSO: Signatures of 1997~1998 and 1998~1999 ENSO Events

Based on the Length of day variation (ΔLOD), the Atmospheric Angular Momentum (AAM) and the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) for the period of January 1970~June 1999, the relationship among the ΔLOD, AAM and ENSO are studied by the wavelet transform method. The results demonstrate that interannual ΔLOD,AAM changes and ENSO have similar time varying spectral structures. The signatures of 1997~1998 El Nino and 1998~1999 La Nina events might be detected from the LOD and AAM data.
