Second language acquisition(SLA) research shows that first language(L1) transfer is one of the important factors.The emphasis of most of those studies has been placed on the negative transfer,and no much attention given to the positive effects of mother tongue.This article discusses the necessity of making good use of learners' knowledge of mother tongue and explores the positive contribution of mother tongue in the teaching of English as majors.
