The Head Wave Radial Penetration Depth in Sonic Logging.

According to the resonance theory of the head wave propagation in a fluidfilled borehole and the weak nonlinear effect of elastic media, the scalar potential of the P wave and its radial penetration depth are derived form the equations of energy conservation. Under the condition of no media consumption, a limited length of head wave travels along the borehole axis in a stable speed without attenuation and distortion, thereby, the sonic energy is always focused around the borebole. The headwave is a soliton.
