Formation Evaluation Using the Velocities of Compressional and Shear Waves.

The slowness of compressional and shear waves from various accoustic logging data was used to determine porosity and formation matrix. Formation parameters, such as porosity, permeability, saturation, lithology, etc., could be calculated using slowness of compressional and shear waves and clay logging curves. Based on M.krief′s equation, relationship between porosity and Biot coefficient for each sample was determined from optimized algorithm, thus enhancing precision of Biot coefficient. The formation interpretations using the velocities of compressional and shear waves are closer to those from core analysis in laboratory.
