Simulating MWD Responses with Finite-difference Time-domain Method.

A numerical method which calculates the responses of measurements-while-drilling (MWD) using finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD) is studied in this paper. Based on it, the transient radiation property of the coil-type MWD in homogenous medium with and without collar, effects of invasion, formation model with invasion and multi-frequency signal response are analyzed. It is obvious that the FDTD method is valid not only in analysis of general response but also in transient response and the multi-frequency signal response. This method will be an effective tool to compute responses of the multi-frequency MWD and multi-frequency phase logging.
