On Mechanism of Polarization Angle of Electromagnetic Logging While Drilling and Its Influence Factors Simulation

In highly-deviated or horizontal wells,the influences of deviated angle,attitude of stratum and measurement types always result in polarization angle in the formation boundary of electromagnetic logging while drilling data.The existence of polarization angle is useful to the judgment of bed interface,but also makes it difficult to evaluate the formation resistivity quantitatively.It indicates that the polarization angle is caused by the electric field discontinuity when it passes through the formation boundary.The forming and amplitude of the polarization angle are influenced by factors such as deviated angle,formation resistivity,mud invasion,and instruments accuracy,etc.Established is the log response mathematical model for electromagnetic logging while drilling data based on the influence factors mentioned above.When the deviated angle and formation resistivity contrast are higher,it is easy to arise polarization angle.The polarization angle is more obviously in low resistivity formation when the formation resistivity contrast is the same.The low resistivity mud invasion can weaken the appearance of polarization angle.This study is directive in correctly understanding the log responses of electromagnetic logging while drilling in complex environment.
