An Experimental Study on Settling Vel6city for Plastic Materials in Still Water

This paper gives emphasis to expositing the settling movement, drag properties and coefficients of plastic particles in still water. Experimental data show that the drag-coefficient curve is quite similar to that of natural sand, and so is the settling-velocity formula in stagnation and turbulent regions, except for transitional region. Effect of different specific gravities lies only in that grain size limits of dividing flow regions have some difference. Based on the phenomena of suspension and upward floating of plastic grains, the auther holds that the settling formula in stagnation region suits only to the plastic grains with a diameter of 0. 10-0. 35mm.
