Experimental study on united dissipator with stepped spillway dam surface and flaring gate piers

This paper puts forward a new XJXtype flaring gate pier by hydraulic model test for some practical project. The test results show that: this pier can suit the large variable range of discharges; its energy dissipation rate reaches 60%-70%, i.e. 5%-10% higher than that of conventional one; the jet flow pressure acting on the stilling basin can be reduced by 30% in comparison with conventional flaring piers. It may be widely used in hydralic engineering.
