Main ecological and environmental problems of water-level-fluctuation zone(WLFZ)in Three Gorges reservoir and their controlling measures

After the accomplishment of Three Gorges Project, a 30-meter-high water-level-fluctuationg zone will appear along both banks, and become a kind of seasonal humid ecosystem. This paper, according to the program to store water of Three Gorges reservoir, explores the ecological and environmental problems which will probably appear in WLFZ as follows: formation of contaminated zone along both banks, appearance of epidemic diseases in reservoir area(including Chongqing urban districts), aggravation of geologic disaster, injury of biodiversity and intensifying ecosystem fragility, etc.. To aim at the causes, time-space distribution features and trends of ecological and environmental problems existing probably in WLFZ of Three Gorges reserovir, the author puts forward six items of corresponding countermeasures.
