The network of Yangtze river with the length of 6300 km.is the largest oneoccuping 1.8 million km~2.and about one-fivth of the total area of China.Within thenetwork,it falls mostly in the humid subtropical region with aboundant natural resour-ces.This is the most developing region with 40% of total national harvests and products. But the regional development in side the network is quiet uneven. The lower reachesare more developed than the middle and upper reaches;while the cities along theYangtze main course are more developed than the mountainous and hilly regions.The-refore,the even development of the whole Yangtze river network is very necessary.
