The Changjiang River Delta Area is one of the most economically developed regions in China,but the shortage of resources and environmental problems there are serious as the result of population increase,fast industrialization and urbanization.The experts from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai city made the most of the superiority of the advanced positions of RS,GIS,computer cartography and network techniques to set up the “Dynamic Decision and Consultation Support System by Satellite Remote Sensing in the Changjiang River Delta Area".The regional geographical database and thematic databases were set up on the basis of formulation of the standards and norms of database.The studies on the key techniques of extra large amount of data compressing and processing,remote sensing data compatibility and reliability,multimedia and geo information pattern were done.The dynamic survey and monitoring of land use in the whole area,riverbank in Changjiang River,tideland in Hangzhouwan Bay,and vegetable land in Shanghai City using remote sensing were carried with the support of the system.The result of the research has provided scientific basis in the decision and planning for the regional sustainable development and has been directly used in the aspects such as the planning of basic agricultural land protection and urban and town construction,the fighting against extra flood disaster in 1998 and the planning of the utilization and development of the riverbank resources of the Changjiang River etc.
