APPLICATION OF RS AND GIS TECHNIQUES TO ANALYZE THE EFFECTS OF “SOUTH TO NORTH WATER TRANSFER PROJECT”ON THE LAND RESOUCE IN DANJIANGKOU RESERVOIR AREA OF HUBEI PROVINCE

The middle route of “south to north water transfer project” will have great effects on the land resources in Danjiangkou Reservoir Area which will be the water supplying area in the project.The scope of the present study comprised the Reservoir and an area where the altitude is below 200 meters around the reservoir in Hubei Province.Based on the visual interpretation of Landsat TM images for land use at a scale of 1∶250 000 and on the using of GIS,the authors perform a land use inventory,make a primary estimation of the losses of the land resources which will be inundated with water due to the project,and provide a macro analysis of the changes of the land use structure.Further,some suggestions are given on the planning and utilization of the land resources in the area.
