PRINCIPLES AND METHODOLOGY FOR THE RESTORATION AND REHABILITATION OF VEGETATION IN DEGRADED MOUNTAINOUS LAND

Restoration and rehabilitation of degraded vegetation in mountainous land are pressing jobs in view of the strategy of sustainable development of forestry and agriculture. Principles and methodology on artificial restoration and rehabilitation of vegetation in degraded mountainous land are reported, including the aim, procedures, theories, technological methods, etc. The aim should be taking both the control of degraded environment and the speeding up of economic development into consideration, namely, to build up ecological vegetation. The basic procedures include investigation and diagnosis of degraded ecosystem, strategy-selecting and ecological planning, plants selection, plant communities designing,assembling and putting into implementation, and monitoring and optimation to follow.Nine ecological theories should be considered and seven technological methods are suggested in the process of the restoration and rehabilitation of vegetation. Following the methodology introduced here,satisfactory effects on artificial restoration and rehabilitation of vegetation had been attained at Dagou watershed of upper reaches of The Minjiang River.
