A Study on the Quaternary Sedmentary Environment of the Yaoshaling Region, Tianmushan Mountain

Zhu Cheng(Deportment of Geo. & Ocean Sciences, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210008)  
Analyses of 16 samples from the Yaoshaling profile, Tianmushan Mountain, reveal the following new results and diScoveries: 1. Size parameter and C-M map show that the C values are all situated above 0 and the deposit should be proluvium and alluvium by tumble and suspension transport. 2. Fe3+/Fe2+ data illustrate that the lowest annual air temperature during the Quaternary did not go below 0℃, and glacier, therefore, couldn't be developed here. 3. The profile has rich A12O3 and Fe2O3, this phenomenon indicates that the area had mainly undergone chemical weathering of warm and humid enivonments during the Quaternary. 4. Pollen assemblage reveals at least that the place had undergone sedimentary environments from warm humid one to warm dry then to humid hot one during the Mid-Pleistocene. 5. The illite(dool) X-ray diffraction indicates that the open index Ns is gradually increasing from the lower to upper on the profile; on the contrary,the ratio(Hw) of length and width, illustrates that the weathering intensity has an increscent trend gradually. 6. Both P8nning and scanning electron microscopes discover that zircons have some inclusions with air and liquid, and have features of subangular Shape and good automorphic granularity. The phenomena show the features of proximal sedimentation and volcanic rocks(Parent rock). The surface of mest quartZ sands shows the features of humid climate and underwater environmentS with high energy. 7. Paleomagnetic dating finds that the Profile belongs to the Brunhes normal ePOCh, its stratigraphical time table should be Q2 and Q4. 8. Comprehensive analyses of susceptibility and granularity, etc. show that the place had undergone both warm-humid, warmdry and humid-hot, dry-hot environments during the Pleistocene, there were mainly proluvium and alluvium deposition for the Mid-Pleistocene ; residual and slope deposits for the Holocene epoch.
