Studies on Corrosion Resistance of a Non-Chromate Conversion Coating for Magnesium Alloys

A chromium\|free conversion coating for magnesium alloys had been obtained by adding an inhibitor in the solution containing a non\|permanganate manganese salt and phosphate. Corrosion resistance of the chemical conversion coating was evaluated by anodizing polarization curve and salt immersion. The conversion coating had self\|healing action after being corroded by 5% NaCl solution. XRD analysis showed that the conversion coating was composed of Mn\-3(PO\-4)\-2. Regular crystalline morphology of surface film was observed by using SEM.
