Preparing and Properties of Black Ceramic Coatings by Micro-Arc Oxidation

Black ceramic coating was obtained by micro\|arc oxidation on the substrate of LY12 aluminum alloy. The influences of DD\|I additive concentration on the film forming velocity, surface roughness, hardness and wear resistance of ceramic layer were studied. The results showed that the blackness of ceramic coating became deeper while the concentration of DD\|I additive was increased. The film forming velocity, surface roughness and wear resistance of ceramic coatings were all increased with lower concentration of DD\|I additive except that the hardness kept almost unchanged. Contrariwise, these properties became poorer with too high concentration DD\|I additives. The tests showed that the black ceramic coating prepared by micro\|arc oxidation had excellent properties when the concentration of DD\|I additive was 5 g/L.
