Ultrasonic-Electropolishing Technology for Biomedical Titanium Alloy

Surface finish technology was studied for biomedical titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V) implants in common use.Combining the intensity ultrasonic wave and electrochemical effect on the base of experiments,ultrasonic-electropolishing process for biomedical titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V) implants was accomplished effectively utilizing the energy effect of intensity ultrasonic wave and the features of electropolishing.The promotion effect of intensity ultrasonic wave on electropolishing process and the influence of ultrasonic wave on polishing quality were analyzed,and better processing parameters were obtained.Study results show that adopting appropriate ultrasonic-electropolishing parameters,the surface roughness of workpiece may be decrease from R_a 3.2 μm to R_a 0.2 μm after 2 minutes.The surface roughness of workpiece can be improved greatly,the content of titanium oxide in surface oxide film may be increased,and the biocompatibility and corrosion resistance of titanium alloy implant can also be promoted.
