Process for Golden-Yellow Chemical Oxidizing of Magnesium Alloys

A process for the chemical oxidization of magnesium alloys was developed so as to improve the corrosion resistance,decorating performance,and adhesion to substrate of the surface protective and decorating coatings for Mg alloys.The effects of the concentration of CrO_(3) and complexing agent,pH value,temperature,and chemical oxidation duration on the appearance and corrosion resistance of the oxide coatings were investigated.And the optimized chemical oxidation process for the Mg alloys was established.As the results,the optimal formulation of the bath and parameters were determined to be 20~28 g/L CrO_(3),(4~)6 g/L agent,pH value 1.5~2.0,time 50~90 s,and ambient temperature.The coating prepared using the optimized process had golden-yellow appearance and good luster,decorating performance,corrosion resistance,and adhesion to lacquer on the Mg alloy substrate.Therefore,the titled chemical oxidation coating,as a kind of bottom lacquer,would be much advantageous and applicable to the surface treatment of the crusts of electronics and electric facilities made of Mg alloys.
