Microstructure and Morphology of LiCoO_2 Coatings

LiCoO_2 anticorrosion coatings were prepared using organic and inorganic sol-gel processes. The microstructures and morphologies of the coatings were investigated. The results showed that the coatings prepared from the two routes had similar phase transition during heat treatment. Namely, they had non-crystalline structure in dry gel state but were composed of crystallized Li_ 0.4CoO_2 and completely crystallized LiCoO_2 after being heat-treated at 400 ℃ and 650 ℃, respectively. Moreover, the coating prepared via organic route was characterized by island-like morphology, while that prepared via inorganic route had relatively dense and smooth morphology.
