Microstructure and Thermal-Shocking Resistance of Nanostructured Zirconia Coating Prepared by Solution Precursor Plasma Spraying

Nanostructured zirconia thermal barrier coating was prepared using solution precursor plasma spraying process.The transformation and deposition process of the solution precursor in the plasma flame and on the substrate were primarily investigated.The effect of the size of the mist-like droplet on the microstructure and phase structure,in particular,of the nanometer zirconia coating was examined.At the same time,the thermal-shocking resistance of the nanostructured zirconia coating was also evaluated using cyclic thermal-shocking test.It was found that the microstructure and phase structure of the nanostructured zirconia coating were closely related to the solution precursor plasma spraying process,especially,to the size of the mist-like droplet.Moreover,the as-deposited nanostructrued zirconia coating had good thermal-shocking resistance.
