Microstructure of 7075 Aluminum Alloys Produced by CREM Process

The effects of electromagnetic field with low frequency on the evolutions of the solidified shell height and the microstructure,bearing on 7075-aluminum alloy produced by CREM process,were investigated.The results show that the gradual increase in the electromagnetic field intensity causes a decrease in the height of solidified shell and in the contact height between melt and mold,which improve the surface quality of ingot.Correspondingly,the quantity of spheroid-shaped grains increase and rosette-shaped grains decrease,making the whole microstructure of ingot finer and more uniform.
