An Experimental Study on Degradation of Ortho-nitrophenol with Titania-bearing Blast Furnace Slag

Based on the review of photocatalytic mechanism and applications of photocatalysts,titania-bearing blast furnace slag(TBBFS)of Pangangl is used as photocatalytic materials to degrade ortho-nitrophenol solution through photocatalytic reactions. Effects of various factors on the degradation process are studied on the basis of experimental results. All of the present work is aimed at exploring new utilizing of TBBFS. The experimental results show that: as a photocatalytic material TBBFS possesses degradation role on ortho-nitrophenol. Photoeataiytic activity of TBBFS is related to the constant temperature, the best degradation effect was obtained after 120 min's heat-treated constantly at 600℃for TBBFS. The lower the concentration of ortho-nitrophenol, the bigger the degradation rate. In this expenment,for TBBFS loaded on glass sheet,the optimal concentration of ortho-nitrophenol is 15mg/l. For ortho-nitrophenol solution, the pH value corresponding to the maximum degradation rate is 3. 00. Application of voltage on ortho-nitrophenol solution can enhance photocatalytic process and degradation rate increases with the boosting of voltage.
