Synthesis and Adsorption Property of Mesoporous Molecular Sieve MCM-41 with Different Pore Diameters

The molecular sieve MCM-41 with different pore diameters is synthesized with Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) as the liquid crystal template and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene(TMB) as assistant agent. The samples are characterized by water absorption ratio, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and N_2 adsorption at 77.4K. The results show that the unit cell parameters (4.411~4.861 nm), mean pore diameters (3.5~4.1 nm) and BET surface areas (899~1021 m~2/g) of MCM-41 become larger with the TMB and CTAB molar ratio (0.5∶1~3∶1) increasing; the unit cell parameters (4.861~4.584 nm) get smaller with increasing the TMB and CTAB molar ratio (3∶1~4∶1). The adsorption property of MCM-41 with different pore diameters in Hg~ 2+ polluted water is studied. The results show that MM-41 has a good adsorption property to Hg~ 2+ , and the adsorption ratio to Hg~ 2+ (78% ~92.6%) increases with the mean pore diameters (3.5~4.1 nm) of MCM-41 becoming larger.
