Study of the Catalysis and Diffusion Mechanism by Rare Earth(RE) Elements During the Thermo-chemical Treatment

The special electro-construction of 4f determines that the RE elements have high chemical activity. The permeating rate is increased obviously under the action of activity and catalysis of RE elements. The RE elements permeated in surface of the steel, then the structure and performance of the permeating layer are effectively improved. This paper briefly introduces the function of RE elements during the thermo-chemical treatment, and emphatically analyzes catalysis and diffusion mechanism of RE elements from the basic process of the thermo-chemical treatment.
