Research Status and Development Trend of Mg-Zn Alloys with High Strength

CHEN Xiaoqiang LIU Jiangwen LUO Chengping (School of Mechanical Engineering,South China University of Technology,Guangzhou 510640)
The status of research and development of Mg-Zn alloys is reviewed in this paper. The effects of rare earth elements and zirconium on the microstructure, mechanical properties and deformability of Mg-Zn alloys are ana- lyzed. The formation and properties of quasicrystal phases and G.P.zones in Mg-Zn-Re(-Zr)alloys are also summa- rized. It is pointed out that forming effective G.P.zone via adding rare earth elements in Mg-Zn alloys is an important approach in development of high strength and toughness magnesium alloys.
