Preparation and Characterization of Agarose Acetate

Through the reaction of agarose with acetate,concentrated sulfonic acid as catalyst,the hydrophobic agarose acetate is prepared.Results show that the most favorable reaction temperature is 50℃,while the substitution degree reaches the maximum value 3.73.The contact angle measurements demonstrates that agarose acetate gets more hydrophobic than agarose.Results of FT-IR and 13C-NMR analyses prove that acetate group connects with aga-rose effectively.TG analysis results also disclose that agarose acetate absorbs little water,and has different thermal properties from agarose.In conclusion,agarose acetate is synthesized,and is hopeful to be used as hydrophobic new textile material and tissue engineering scaffold.
