Synthesis and Characterization of SiC Nanoparticle from Coal

SiC nanoparticles were synthesized by the carbothermal reduction reaction under Ar flow at 1300℃,in which low-cost coal and Na2SiO3·9H2O were used as carbon and silica sources respectively,and Fe(NO3)3·9H2O was used as additive.X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscope,transmission electronic microscopic,photoluminescence and low temperature N2 adsorption-desorption were used to characterize the product.The results indicate that the size of β-SiC varies from 20nm to 60nm.When the molar ratio of iron and silicon is 0.01,the specific surface area of product can get to a maximum of 32m2/g.
