Research Progress on Preparation of AlN Powder by High-energy Ball Milling

The progress on preparation of AlN powder by high-energy ball milling is reviewed.The temperature of subsequent carbothermal reduction for AlN is redued by the mechanical activation effect during high-energy ball milling.The activation mechanism is the grain refinement and lattice distortion of Al2O3by ball milling.It reduces the energy barrier of the reaction in thermodynamics greatly.The kinetic diffusion channels are increased also because the raw materials is mixed evenly by ball milling,however,it is not the prime reason for the synthesis of AlN in a low temperature.The activation energy decreases observably because Al2O3powders can be activated efficiently by plasmaassisted high-energy ball milling.It may become a new way for preparation of AlN powder.
