Effect of Nanometer SiO_2 Particle on the Friction and Wear Properties of Poly(Phthalazine Ether Sulfone Ketone) Composites

The friction and wear properties of poly(phthalazine ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK) composites made with nanometer SiO 2 particles were investigated with an MM 2000 tester by sliding PPESK based composites against plain carbon steel (AISI1045) ring The morphologies of the worn composite surfaces and the transfer films formed on the counterpart steel surface were examined with scanning electron microscope (SEM) It is found that the filling nanometer SiO 2 particle to PPESK can greatly increase the wear resistance of PPESK but also improve the friction reduction performance The best wear resistance of the composite is obtained with the composite containing 25% nanometer SiO 2
