Microwave Synthesis of SiC Powders with Coke and Quartzite

WANG Fu,WANG Qiang,CAO Wen-bin,SUN Jia-lin(School of Materials Science and Engineering,University of Science and Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China)  
SiC powders were synthesized through the reaction between coke and quartzite by microwave heating.The results show that full conversion can be achieved at 1600℃ for holding 30min and the content of SiC in the reacted powders is higher than 98%.SiC powders were synthesized from coke powders with diameters of~2μm,5-20μm,100-200μm,which have similar particle size with the starting coke particles.The microwave-assisted synthesis is fast and economical,and can significantly promote the reaction.
