Numerical Simulation for Ballistic Performance of Resin Matrix Composites

ANSYS/LS-DYNA finite element program was used.Orthotropic material model,maximal stress criterion and Chang-Chang damage criteria were applied in this paper.Ballistic performance of Kevlar fiber-reinforced laminate was analyzed with the explicit finite element program under the condition of different bullet and velocity.Some conclusions were gotten by contrasting computational results with testing results:Under the condition of high impact velocity,the V50 errors of computational results and testing results were less than 10%.Simulation results show that it is feasible to evaluate and forecast the ballistic performance of composite armor by using numerical simulation.The aim of decreasing the amount of test,saving outlays and shortening the research cycle can get,which has applied reference value for engineering.
