Effect of Surface Deformation on Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in TIG Weld Pool

With principles of fluid mechanics and calculus of variation,the calcu- lating formula of surface deformation in TIG weld pool is developed based on the dynamic balance of weld tool gravity,arc pressure and surface tens- ion.A mathematical model has been established for fluid flow and heat transfer in weld pool with a deformed surface.By means of SIMPLER method,the welding heat field and fluid field are analyzed.TIG welding experiments show that the predictions of the model have good agreement with experimental observations with respect to weld pool shape.
