The present status and developing trends of particulate reinforced magnesium matrix composites

The studies on particulate reinforced magnesium matrix composites, especially on their fabrication methods, interface behavior and thermodynamics and kinetics are reviewed. In addition, the strengthening mechanisms and room temperature mechanical properties are simply introduced. At last, the future trends of in situ reactive synthesizing techniques for the fabrication of particulate reinforced magnesium matrix composites are presented. Magnesium matrix composites have great potential to be widely used in high performance aerospace and automobile industries because of their low density, high specific strength and modulus, high wear and temperature resistance and shock absorbing properties.
