Study on mechanism of thermal damage on PCD compacts induced by induction heating

In order to research the oxidized-manner of Polycrystalline Diamond(PCD),and the mechanism and form of thermal damages on PCD induced by induction heating in air,this paper analyzes the curves of DTA and TG in Air,and also observes the samples heated on different conditions by the way of XRD and SEM.The conclusion is reached as follows: ①when PCD is heated,the reaction between the diamond and the metal Cobalt with the Oxygen are mostly exothermatic;②the thermal damage on PCD have four kinks of forms: a) the microcrack on the diamond surface;b) the micro wrinkle on the diamond surface;c) the ball-like bulge;d) the micro hole;③the mechanism of thermal damage on PCD is as follows: the diamond is oxidized into CO and CO_2 which disappeared when heating,thermal stress causes the microcrack and the micro wrinkle on diamond surface;the Cobalt Oxide is produced increasingly with diamond decreasing,that results in the formation of the bulge and the micro hole.
