Experimental Study on Dynamic Behavior of Foamed Aluminum

PAN Yi, HU Shi sheng, WEI Zhi gang (Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior and Design of Materials,University of Science and Technology of China,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Hefei 230027,China)  
The dynamic response of closed cell foamed aluminum under compression by Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar was observed,and the high strain rates of 6 0×10 2/s、1 0×10 3/s、1 9×10 3/s were obtained respectively.The shapes of three compression strain stress curves are similar to that of the Righd Polyure thane Foam characterized by three distinct region:an elastic regions,a collapse region and a densification region.The experimental results show that the yield stress enhances with the increasing of strain rate.It was found that the dynamic behavior of the foamed aluminum demonstrated mainly foam's structural properties rather than matrix's properties.
